Every year, the city of Providence hosts a parade and festival celebrating Dominican culture. We at Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk were proud to sponsor and participate in the event this year! Several of our staff members are from the Dominican Republic, and attending this festival gave us a chance to learn about and enjoy their beautiful, vibrant culture.

The festival begins with a parade, which includes traditional music and masquerade, local luminaries, and Dominican princesses representing regions of the Dominican Republic. Each year, local girls are chosen to represent these regions and their communities vote to decide who will be crowned.

This year’s parade wrapped up at Roger Williams Park, where food trucks stood ready to serve delicious traditional Dominican foods including what is referred to as the Flag “La Bandera Dominicana” rice, beans, and meat along with plantains, meat pies pork rinds, chimi’s and more.  The free event also included local Dominican artists performing traditional music and dance; the main event was an amazing performance by Dominican merengue singer Rubby Perez!

Herb Chambers Honda Seekonk staff were in full force, handing out candy for the kids, cold drinks (great for the hot day) and tee-shirts. We also displayed 3 cars: a Red 2016 Honda HR-V, Blue 2016 Honda Civic Coupe and a White 2017 Honda Accord Sport SE. Our General Manager, Scott Birtles, even rode a Honda C70 Passport scooter in the parade! Scott was honored to be able to say a few words to the crowd, translated by our Internet Manager, Natalie Sena. Natalie, who attends the festival with her family every year, told us, “The Dominican Festival is like bringing a piece of our culture here, every year. It’s a chance to celebrate our culture with friends and family, and it was great to see our team united at this event.”

We’d like to thank the following Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk team members for their tireless help that day: Natalie Sena, Marlina Duran, Giselle Rodriguez, Raffy Torres, Kelvin Almonte, Elo Miranda, Miguel Nebot, Rancier Matos, Brian Medeiros, and Kristina Williams.

The 28th Annual Dominican Parade & Festival was amazing, and we at Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk plan to be there even bigger and better next year. Hope you can join us!
