Winter is officially over! The snow has melted away to reveal grass, flowers, and… potholes.
Potholes are formed when water under the pavement freezes and thaws, causing the pavement to expand and contract. Over time, this leads to cracking and eventually big, gaping potholes that swallow our tires. If you do hit a pothole, it can harm more than just your tires: pothole damage can affect suspension, belts, alignment, and more.
So how do you know if your car has been a victim of pothole problems? Our Service Team shares a few things to watch out for:
- Vibrations when driving
- A rhythmic thumping noise that accelerates as you accelerate
- Pulling on the steering wheel
- Repetitive and rapid loss of air in one or more tires
- Lack of responsiveness when turning
- Noises when turning (rubbing, grinding, scraping, etc.)
- Body damage
Honda Seekonk’s service team has seen cars that have hit potholes so hard that the airbags were deployed!
Luckily, in some cities you can claim your pothole damage to receive a reimbursement for the cost of the damages. To learn more about reporting damage in your community, click here.
If you notice anything different in your car’s performance after hitting a pothole, don’t hesitate to call our service desk for an inspection. Even minor damage can lead to major problems, so we’ll be sure to take care of it right away.
