With February vacation almost upon us, it’s time to plan a road trip! Are you ready for a winter adventure? Living in New England means we have plenty of drivable destinations in all directions that make perfect winter road trips. Check out these 15 prettiest winter villages (nearby Bristol, RI made the list!) Take advantage of time on the calendar when the weekends aren’t as jam-packed as they are during the hot weather months, and pack up your Honda for a day or weekend trip to one of these ultra-cool spots.
White Mountains, New Hampshire
There are so many amazing places to visit in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Whether you stop by Lincoln, North Conway, or make the trek to the top of Mount Washington itself, there’s skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, sledding, skating, and tubing aplenty all over the area. Or skip all that and book a room in a resort to just enjoy the break-taking views and peaceful scenery while cuddled up around a fire playing games.
Vermont has many fantastic locations for winter road trips. Honda Mama has enjoyed her trips there in the past! Located on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain, just 45 miles south of the Canadian border, Burlington is a vibrant city full of arts and culture. It’s also a great destination if you have kids. Just a few miles south in Shelburne is the home of the Vermont Teddy Bear Company. Take a tour to see these lovies getting made, and maybe adopt a new one into your family on the way out. And if you head east, you’ll end up in Waterbury at the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory.
There’s no need to always head north. Just an hour to the west is Mystic, CT. Home to the Mystic Pizza shop, made famous by the 1988 Julia Robert’s movie. Grab “A Slice of Heaven” in this small, picturesque coastal town, and then head over to either Mystic Seaport or the Mystic Aquarium. You can also shop til you drop at Olde Mistick Village.
If skiing and snowboarding are your thing, pile the gear into your Honda and hit the slopes at one of these local ski destinations:
- Blue Hills Ski Area: 35 miles north of Seekonk. 30 acre ski area with 15 runs of various difficulty, located right outside the Boston city border.
- Wachusett Mountain: 65 miles northwest of Seekonk. 103 acres with 19 trails and 5 lifts.
- Nashoba Valley: 70 miles up I-495, there’s 17 ski trails and 18 tubing lanes.
- Yawgoo Valley Ski Area: 28 miles south, a small, 36 acre ski and snow tubing park.
Fight off those winter blues and hit the road. There’s plenty of sights to see and things to do in our neck of the woods, even when the weather is cold and the daylight hours are short. Getting out and about, enjoying time with friends and family, and visiting someplace new is a sure-fire way to boost those spirits and ward off the winter doldrums. Pack up the Honda and get going!
