This year, Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk is once again honored to sponsor the 7th Annual PS3 Ronald A. Gill Jr. Motorcycle Run. The event takes place on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at 10am, and we look forward to being a part of its success.
Ronnie’s Ride is a 100-mile round trip that begins at Cranston High School West and ends at the Cranston Country Club. With a full police escort, riders will visit scenic Rhode Island locations including the RI Veterans Cemetery and Scarborough Beach in Narragansett. All proceeds raised at the Motorcycle Run benefit the PS3 Ronald A. Gill, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Foundation, which grants scholarships to students in Rhode Island and southeastern New England.
The nonprofit based in Cranston, RI, was created in memory of PSC Ronald A Gill, Jr. Ronnie was killed in the line of duty on March 25, 2007, when he was working with the Coast Guard’s Maritime Safety and Security Team in Puget Sound. After his death, Ronnie’s family received many bills for his student loans. After realizing how difficult it is for students to afford college, the Gill family wanted to do what they could to help others pursue higher education.
The foundation provides scholarships for students in Rhode Island and southeastern New England who wish to pursue higher education. Individual awards range from $250 to as much as $4,000, but every little bit helps. Ron Gill, Sr., Ronnie’s father, appreciates sponsors like Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk for their continuing support of the foundation: “Herb Chambers has been one of our biggest supporters. They bring in many donations, and without them, the Run wouldn’t be as successful. We’re forever grateful for all their support in making the Run the best it can be.”
Ron, Sr. says he talks about Ronnie to someone every day, to keep his story going. Through the foundation, Ronnie’s name and memory continue to live on. Ron, Sr. had a very important reason for wanting to do this: his granddaughter, Gracie. “Gracie was born just a few months after her father died, so I had to be his voice,” he tells us, “his daughter will never meet him, so I need her to be able to look back and say, This is my dad.”
