Honda Seekonk Fights Back Against Cancer for Miguel

By 0 Permalink 0

Our Herb Chambers Honda Seekonk team is a tight-knit group, and that’s never more apparent than when one of our team members needs help.

Recently, Miguel Nebot, one of our sales consultants, was diagnosed with cancer.

A father of two, Miguel is known for his friendly, helpful, and hardworking nature. His customers call him “patient, polite, pleasant and knowledgeable.” Miguel’s coworkers agree. Colby Ferreira referred to Miguel as “an all-around fantastic person, and honestly one of the greatest people I’ve ever met. Never a bad word to say about anyone. Always there when you need him, with good advice or a shoulder to lean on. I’ve only known him for a short time but we have all grown to love him like a brother.” Kate Amendola added: “Miguel’s got one of the biggest hearts of anyone I have ever met, and to see him going through this is really hard for all of us. But he’s strong and we know he is going to be OK. He has lots of prayers coming his way.”

John Mitchell shared his experience of meeting Miguel 15 years ago and becoming friends. “Miguel has been a coworker, friend, and brother to me for most my life and will remain so in the future. However, you don’t need to know Miguel for 15 years to realize he is someone who was made to be a friend for life. Customers and coworkers all notice how down to earth, real, and honest he is–not some of the time, all of the time. He makes your life feel better just by meeting him, and that’s an unusual phenomenon in the car business.”

Once the  Honda Seekonk team  became aware of Miguel’s situation, it didn’t take long for them to swing into action. John Mitchell started a gofundme page to help defray Miguel’s medical expenses, and, with Priscilla Nebot, Sindy Leon, Walter Arrecis, Danielle Samoorian, Colby Ferreira, John Henriques, and Ashley Brogan, organized a fundraising event that raised over $4,700. They chose a comedy event, Funny4Funds, to raise money for Miguel because he is known at the dealership for his smile and easy laugh–he’s “a bright spot for anyone feeling down.”

Honda Seekonk employees who organized the event insist that what they did was no big deal. “Raising money and helping someone is not impressive,” says John.  “It’s just what you do for someone you call your friend. I appreciate the efforts of people who do not know him as well I do, and continue to support him. To all those people at our dealerships, who came together along with friends and family to continue to make Miguel’s recovery a success, I truly thank you.”

John went on to thank Scott Birtles, Honda Seekonk General Manager, for his support of Miguel. “Scott has supported this event in many ways, donating raffle items and money for the Funny4Funds event. He has also donated generously to Miguel’s GoFundMe page. Most importantly, though, I want to thank Scott for truly supporting Miguel by being flexible and understanding of me taking the time to plan this event to help our friend. Putting friends and family first has been, and will remain, the most important thing to me, and I am grateful that he supported me in doing that.”  Scott Birtles replied,  “As John says, these are just the things we do for our friends. Miguel is a special person, and I’m proud of how our team has come together to help him. We’re truly a family here, and we help each other whenever we can.

Cancer may be tough, but Miguel is even tougher, and we are fighting alongside him, all the way.

If you would like to help Miguel, please go to his gofundme page and make a donation–every little bit helps! Thank you!
