Honda Mama’s Holiday Playlist

By 0 Permalink 0

Well, it’s that time of year again. Time to break out the Christmas carols! Let me tell you a little something about my musical philosophy in the car:

It is my car. The music is in the car. (Which is, as I said, my car.) So, it is my music.

My kids have had to develop a taste for what Honda Mama likes, which includes everything from Cyndi Lauper to Led Zeppelin to Aaron Copland. I don’t do kid music. EXCEPT AT CHRISTMAS. Christmas is the season of giving, and because my beloved Crosstour has the iPod hookup, I can have ALL the Christmas music, even the crazy kid stuff.

Here’s what we’ve got rockin’ in the Crosstour right now: Burl Ives (Rudolph, Santa, and all those fabulous Rankin Bass characters singing their little puppet hearts out.) Muppet Christmas Carols with John Denver (I dare you not to cry during “A Baby Just Like You,” which we know in my house as “Merry Christmas, Little Zachary.”) Alvin and the Chipmunks (a classic, but also a little torturous in large doses, so we switch off between that and Muppet Christmas.)

That’s the kid music. The grownup music is very different. I survived 13 years of Catholic school and it gave me a taste for that type of music, so the inside of my car pretty much sounds like a Baroque church from just after Halloween to just before New Year’s. A church where Alvin and the Chipmunks are singing, upon request, all the time.
