Honda Mama Crosses the Border (to Canada)

By 0 Permalink 0

As you know, Honda Mama is a hockey mama, and most of our road trips are hockey-related. So when it’s cold and snowy and most people are heading to locations that offer fun in the sun, we’re usually hitting the road for even colder and snowier places. This winter is no exception! A few weeks ago, we jumped in the Pilot and headed to Toronto (CANADA, EH?) for some family fun.

Now, don’t let my sarcasm fool you. I actually don’t mind cold weather and I get a crazy kick out of blizzards, so Canada is just my speed. And with the current exchange rate, it’s a great time to travel there if you are a Frugal Frannie like me! We spent our first night in Niagara Falls, and it was truly as beautiful and awe-inspiring as I had imagined.

In Toronto, I tried to make sure we were seeing more than just the inside of hockey rinks. We had dinner at Wayne Gretzky’s, which was delicious. (Pierogis! In a restaurant! My Polish and Ukrainian ancestors were dancing with glee.) We also had coffee and donuts at Tim Horton’s every chance we got. (Is this a good time to mention how many eateries are named after professional hockey players in Canada?)

We went to the CN Tower for a beautiful nighttime view of the city, and did a little shopping at Hudson’s Bay Company and Roots. And of course, we wound up our tour with a trip to the Hockey Hall of Fame. (Shout out to Honda in the retro display!) Playing in an international tournament is always a great experience for the kids, and not only did our son get to skate on Canadian ice, but my husband got to coach a few games, too!

On the way home, we hit some bad weather and I was glad to have wehearthonda’s winter driving tips and winter braking tips in my mind as I negotiated the icy roads. But all in all, it was a wonderful road trip. We loved our stay in Canada, and can’t wait to go back!
