2017 Honda Civic Hatchback vs 2017 Chevy Cruze Hatchback: Honda Laura’s Battle of the Hatchbacks!

By 0 Permalink 0

Time for another epic face-off by me, Honda Laura! You may remember my Showdown of the Summer: the 2016 Honda Civic EX-T versus the 2016 Chevy Cruze LT. Not long after, I did a (very enthusiastic) review and test drive of the Honda Civic Hatchback EX-L Navi when it first came out. But I thought I needed to put the Civic Hatchback up against a tough competitor like I did with the Civic EX-T, and thus was born the Battle of the Hatchbacks! This time I compared the 2017 Honda Civic EX Hatchback with the 2017 Chevy Cruze LT Hatchback in a review and test drive, and I had such a blast doing it! Big thanks as always to Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk for letting us take the Civic out and also to our friends at Herb Chambers Chevy of Danvers for lending us the Cruze.

OK, onto the Battle of the Hatchbacks! Be sure to check out my YouTube video of the whole thing.

Civic Hatchback: EX trim level, MSRP of $22,800

Chevy Cruze Hatchback: LT trim level (with Sun & Sound and Convenience Packages added to make features comparable to Civic EX) MSRP of $24,500

Both have beautifully sculpted front ends, I’m impressed!

The Test Drive:

Cruze LT Hatchback:

Feels so different than the Cruze sedan, and in a good way! It’s much smoother and is actually comparable to the Civic in terms of driving. I’m not a fan of the auto-stop though, where the engine turns off every time you stop, and you can’t turn the feature off. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this car despite it being a little pricey!

Civic EX Hatchback:

I love driving this car. It’s peppy, sporty and responsive. It just feels good to be behind the wheel. The steering and suspension feel stiffer and more stable than the Cruze, and the drive is smooth and easy. Of course it goes without saying that the power is amazing!

The final word: Two amazing cars! The Cruze LT Hatchback has classic lines and is packed with cool tech features while the Civic EX Hatchback has a more modern look with killer performance. Many thanks again to Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk and our buddies at Herb Chambers Chevy of Danvers for making this Battle of the Hatchbacks possible! Thoughts? Opinions? Questions?
