The East Providence Junior Townies, a local youth football and cheerleading organization, kicked off their 2017 season, thanks in part to the sponsorship of Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk. The program is dedicated to promoting the ideals of sportsmanship, scholarship and physical fitness through the game of football and cheerleading to children ages 5 to 13 years old in the East Providence, Rhode Island community.

For more than six years, we have been involved in supporting and sponsoring the Townies, and we are proud to be the season long official sponsor for 2017. “Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk is always one of the first companies to come on board and support us,” explained Jenny Viera, the fundraising coordinator for the Townies. “They’ve been a big part of our organization and allowed us to do a lot for our kids!”

Jenny added that the funds raised through this year’s sponsorship, “were used to refurbish and purchase new helmets, provide pads and uniforms, maintain the fields, as well as cover travel expenses for teams that make it to nationals.” This included purchasing 75 new helmets to replace those damaged due to age or condition, and refurbishing 185 helmets, which includes disassembling, cleaning, and ensuring each meet the strict safety standards required.

On August 12, the Townies hosted their first ever Family Fun day, and recognized Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk by unveiling a sponsorship banner that will hang at the home field, Pierce Memorial Stadium on Mercer Street, for the duration of the season. The event offered something for all ages, including a DJ, food, games, arts and crafts, and the always popular “dunk the coaches.” Additional fundraisers are in the planning stages, including Turn the Town Red, a night out for parents, on September 30th.

“215 football players and 125 cheerleaders are able to come together through their common interest in sportsmanship, fellowship and athletic competition thanks to Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk,” Jenny concluded.

Opening day for the Townies is scheduled for Sunday, August 27, 2017, at Pierce Field. Join us as they kick-off the season and encourage these kids to play hard, work hard, and have fun enjoying the game of football and cheerleading!
