Known throughout the community as “Ronnie’s Ride”, the event this year is scheduled for Sunday, April 28, 2019. The 100-mile round trip motorcycle ride commences at 10:00 AM from Cranston High School West, and will once again be accompanied by a full police escort.
The schedule for the day is as follows:
8:30 – Registration at Cranston High School West

All participants in Ronnie’s Ride will enjoy dinner at the Cranston Country Club following the conclusion of the 100-mile trip.
Funds generated from entry fees for the event are used to support the PS3 Ronald A. Gill Jr. Memorial Scholarship Foundation, which grants educational scholarships to students in Rhode Island and Southeastern New England. To date, more than $300,000 has been distributed since its founding in March 2008. A full list of all the students that received these scholarships, which helps ensure they are able to realize their dreams for higher education, can be found here.
Ronnie’s Ride originated in 2008 following the death of PS3 Ronald Al Gill Jr. A graduate of Cranston High School West, Ronnie left his career as a talented chef and enlisted in the Coast Guard because of his love of country and desire to serve others. He was assigned to the Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team when he was tragically killed in the line of duty on March 25, 2007. Ronnie left behind a loving family, including his wife Ambur, and a daughter, Gracie, who was born six months after his death.
His father, Ron A. Gill Sr., started the memorial fund as a way to honor his son, his commitment to others, and to ensure his granddaughter Gracie has a regular reminder of her father and his legacy.
The cost to participate in Ronnie’s Ride and the accompanying dinner at the Cranston Country Club is just $25. Participants will also receive an event t-shirt. Pre-registration is going on now. Contact Ron Gill Sr. at: (401) 942-4799 or by email: firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up. The event sold out last year so be sure to sign up early! Riders are welcome to arrive early to the event, starting at 8:00AM, and register on-site.
If you cannot make the ride itself, consider making a donation to the memorial fund directly. The foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity organization, and all contributions and proceeds from these events go directly to the scholarship recipients.
